Starting Out

LaRon James got an early start. At twelve, he met Malik and the two soon became fast friends. They paired up and formed their first rap duo, Draftpick, and started touring around the city. They got their first record deal and contract right after playing at the Apollo Theater three years later.

The duo teamed up with Memphis Bleek and Tracey Lee to record their first single on the label Priority Records. It was titled "Play Ruff."

New Band, New Name

LaRon James soon changed his name to Juelz Santana. He left Draftpick and joined Cam'ron, another New York rap artist, to form The Diplomats. They started recording with two other hip hop artists and made a strong name for themselves.
