Early Life
Born in Bessemer, Alabama on February 12, 1980, Gucci Mane's original name was Radric Delantic Davis. His early life was somewhat troubled. His father was on the run from the law, having been wanted for drug possession and other serious felonies. As a result, he hid out in Detroit, Michigan, thus leaving young Radric in the care of both his mother and his paternal grandfather.
Radric had come from a strong military background, with both of his grandfathers having been in the military during two major wars. His father was stationed in Korea during the conflict for a period of two years. At age nine, he relocated to Atlanta, GA to live with his mother, who was a schoolteacher and a social worker.
His older half-brother, Victor, had been one of the earliest influencers in his passion for music. He was introduced at an early age to such acts as The Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Run-DMC. In fact, the boys would attend live concerts of those three artists, and that was perhaps the single greatest motivator in his earliest passion for this type of genre.
After spending the early half of his childhood in Alabama, Radric soon moved with his mother to Atlanta, GA. It was there that he discovered life on the streets within the inner city. His brush with drugs and high crime would soon begin.

This earned him a full scholarship to Georgia Perimeter College, where he attended the first three years of his young adult life. Due to a series of felony drug charges, he lost his scholarship and dropped out opf college.
