Drake has two new BFFs, and they’re not the A-list celebrities you’re probably thinking of.

The Canadian-born rapper was spotted courtside at an NBA game in Oklahoma City Wednesday night, watching the Rockets and Thunder battle it out. It doesn’t appear Drake was in Oklahoma for any other reason than to support his buddy and fellow Toronto native Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder point guard seemed to feel the love, ultimately scoring an impressive 39 points, though it wasn’t enough to edge out the Rockets who took the match 114-110.

After giving Drake a hug post game, Gilgeous-Alexander told reporters he and Drake are old friends. “We know each other, being from the same city. He loves hoops, I love music.”

But the Canadian brotherhood wasn’t even the main event, as many onlookers were more taken with the instant rapport Drake found with the middle-aged couple seated beside him during the game. The award-winning performer posted a selfie with the smiling b-ball fans to his Instagram stories (check out his account under the handle @champagnepapi), with the text “My new parents.”

The unlikely trio was also featured on the Paycom Center jumbotron. Cameras showed them chatting away before Drake flashed the crowd a peace sign, receiving pretty hefty applause in response.

Even funnier is the apparent conversation the small group had. The man asked Drake if he was famous, not recognizing the “In My Feelings” superstar. The former Degrassi: The Next Generation cast member  took the moment in stride, laughing and playfully patting the man in the chest and arm.

Thankfully, Drake still got some recognition from other audience members and the Thunder’s team mascot, Rumble, who took the time to shake Drake’s hand.

Drake, 35, has had a fairly eventful year, the last month being particularly interesting. He just scored top honors from Billboard, scoring their Top Artist of the Year award for the second time (the first was in 2018). His album, Certified Lover Boy, debuted at the chart’s top spot in September and the first three singles have been equally popular.

He also made headlines just this week for joining Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West) for a surprise collab at The L.A. Memorial Coliseum. The two hitmakers played through a laundry list of fan favorites, entertaining a 70,000-strong crowd. The show was formally titled the Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert.

Amazon Prime subscribers can now stream the concert for free. Hoover, 71, is currently behind bars at ADX Florence prison in Colorado serving six life sentences for his involvement in gang-related crimes including conspiracy, money laundering, extortion, and murder, amongst other charges. Ye and his ex-partner Kim Kardashian have been petitioning for Hoover’s release as well as raising awareness of generally poor prison conditions and the need for sentencing reform.
