Kaley Cuoco celebrates a low-key birthday following split from ex-hubby Karl Cook

“It’s Ok to Not be OK.”

That’s the message actress Kaley Cuoco is sending out to fans on her 36th birthday as she copes with the end of her marriage to soon-to-be former spouse Karl Cook.

The couple announced their divorce in September of this year in a joint statement that read, in part, “we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions.” The statement also emphasized that the decision to split was mutual, saying, “There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary… We have made this decision together through an immense amount of respect and consideration for one another.”

The Big Bang Theory cast member and her equestrian ex started dating in 2016, becoming engaged on Cuoco’s 32nd birthday in November 2017 and ultimately marrying in June 2018.

In her raw and emotional Instagram story, Cuoco shared a glimpse at her softer side, and it seems like this year’s birthday celebration may have been less than bubbly. “Sometimes it’s okay to not feel totally okay,” wrote The Flight Attendant star. “Even on ur bday.”

Despite the special occasion stirring up some old memories, it seems the day wasn’t a total downer, as Cuoco also posted about support from her loved ones, exclaiming, “I have the greatest fam and friends there ever was.”

Her celebration also included plenty of her furry and feathered friends, too. The actress is famous for her love of horses, and she spent part of her day hanging out at the stables. Another image posted to her Instagram story showed Cuoco cuddled up to a horse with the caption, “A quick stop by the barn for some magical pony kisses always helps.”

Sources told Us Weekly that Cuoco and Cook are still in contact and apparently getting along just fine, telling the magazine, “[Cuoco] and Karl are on good terms. You could tell it’s an amicable divorce [and] far from messy.”

Another insider told Us that Cuoco had been focusing on herself and her work post-separation. “She really wants to take this time to focus on herself and focus on her upcoming roles.” In addition to The Flight Attendant, the Emmy-nominated actress voices Harley Quinn in the HBO Max animated series of the same name, and her production company is currently working on a limited series about legendary actress, singer, and animal welfare activist Doris Day. Cuoco plans to star in and executive produce that project.Cuoco’s marriage to Cook was her second. She was married to ex-husband Ryan Sweeting, a professional tennis player, from 2013 to 2016. She was also engaged to an addiction specialist Josh Resnick in 2011, though the couple ended their engagement the following year without any I dos, and had a long-term relationship with fellow Big Bang Theory alum Johnny Galecki.
