He's one of three children born to Kanat Kudaibergenuly Aitbayev and Svetlana Aitbayeva. Each of his parents are well-known in Kazakh culture. His father led the Cultural Development Board of Aktobe. Dimash inherited at least some of his singing talent from his mother. Svetlana is a soprano at the Aktobe Philharmonic Society and is Artistic Director at Saz, a children's studio in the Aktobe region.
Dimash has a brother, Mansur, and a sister, Raushan.

He earned a Master's degree in music composition while performing and recording.
