There’s trouble in paradise for ex-boybander Zayn Malik and his on-again, off-again girlfriend Gigi Hadid, and this time Gigi’s mama’s involved.

Yolanda Hadid, Gigi’s mother and herself a former reality star after a stint on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, claims her daughter’s baby daddy got physical last weekend. The Dutch-American one-time model says Malik “struck” her and she’s considering filing charges with the police.

Once news of the alleged assault leaked, Malik posted a lengthy statement on social media, saying in part, “As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in.” Zayn later continued, “In an effort to protect that space for her I agree to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago.”

The “Pillowtalk” songster, who was a founding member of the iconic group One Direction, said he wanted the dispute to be private so he could co-parent his daughter without divisiveness. He then concluded the statement by explaining he is “hopeful though for healing for all involved” and will continue to prioritize the privacy and protection of his daughter, Khai, who he shares with Gigi.

Insiders say that although Malik refers to Gigi as his partner, the couple actually broke up about a month ago. The reason for the breakup is reportedly down to Yolanda’s continued meddling. Sources claim the TV personality was repeatedly showing up at the duo’s home unannounced and might even have shared the first pic of Khai on social media without the publicity-shy Malik’s permission.

Another source backed up the claims. “Zayn felt that Yolanda was getting in the middle of things,” and the interference led to tension and, eventually, the alleged dust up.

It’s a sad end for the pair who first got together in November 2015. They were initially spotted loved up at an LA restaurant following that year’s American Music Awards, where Gigi presented and Malik took to the stage with his then-bandmates from One Direction. Both were coming off long-term relationships, Hadid with Jonas Brother’s singer Joe Jonas and Malik with Little Mix member Perrie Edwards. Malik and Edwards had been engaged for two years prior to parting ways that August. The following six years would bring lots of ups and downs, including Gigi’s starring turn in Zayn’s “Pillowtalk” music video, a joint cover for Vogue, numerous red carpet appearances, and more than one temporary split. Only time will tell whether the current separation is permanent or just another bump in the road for the famous parents.
