She’s had a couple false starts, but Paris Hilton’s big day has finally arrived. The socialite and famed hotel heiress got hitched last Thursday in an all-out ceremony that included multiple parties, quite a few outfit changes, a slew of celebrity guests, and hopefully one happily ever after.
But who’s the guy?
Carter Milliken Reum, 40, is the son of W. Robert and Sherry Reum. The newly minted spouse apparently gets his business acumen from his dad; before passing away from cancer in 2017, the elder Reum was chairman and CEO of Amsted Industries, a Chicago-based company that manufactures industrial components for railroads.
In 2003, Carter graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a business and managerial economics degree. Soon after, he launched his first venture capital firm while based in Sydney, Australia. He would later move back to NYC and take a job with noted firm Goldman-Sachs before once again going out on his own.
Thanks to her family’s money and decades of work as a reality star, influencer, celebrity DJ, and perfume hawker (a revenue stream that’s brought in a whopping $2.5 billion on its own), Hilton is worth a staggering $300 million. It’s hard to compete with those numbers, but Reum is no slouch. He acquired his own fortune of an estimated $35-40 million largely resulting from M13, an angel investment firm that’s known for helping to launch such mega-brands as Slack, FanDuel, and Lyft.
Reum’s other projects include VEEV Spirits, an acai-flavored alcohol brand made using distilled Idaho winter wheat, which he shares with his brother, Courtney. The siblings have also co-authored a how-to book on entrepreneurship.
The loved-up couple got engaged earlier this year after dating for about a year. Reum popped the question while the couple was traveling, producing a jaw-dropping custom ring by jewelry designer Jean Dousset.
Hilton, also 40, announced the engagement in an Instagram post, saying, “When you find your soulmate, you don’t just know it. You feel it.”
She went on to describe the special moment: “My love & I have been together since our first date, and for my birthday, he arranged a special trip to a tropical paradise. As we walked to dinner along the beach, Carter led us to a cabana adorned with flowers and dropped to one knee. I said yes, yes to forever.”
Her then-fiancé seemed equally excited. On an episode of Hilton’s new matrimony-themed podcast “This is… Paris Getting Married,” Reum talked up the duo’s wedding plans. “It is definitely going to be your fairytale wedding.
